How to become a Christian

People have suggested different ways to have a meaningful life on earth and then spend eternity in heaven, but what does the Bible say?

1. "All have sinned and have come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

Choosing to direct our own self-centered lives instead of following God is called sin. The Bible says that every person is guilty of willfullly disobeying God.

2. " For the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23).

Sin results in a broken relationship with God. We will remain out of fellowship with God for alll eternity unless we accept the gift of salvation He offers to us.

3. "But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23).

God offers to all who come to faith in Jesus the free gift of salvation. Our best efforts cannot save us or earn for us the gift God offers.

Personal faith in Jesus is the only way to be saved. Faith starts with admitting your disobedience to God. You then ask Jesus to come into your life. You pray: "Lord Jesus, please forgive my sins. I open my heart to you. I repent of (turn from) my sin. I give you control of my life. Thank you for coming into my life. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen."

Tell a pastor or other Christian friend of your decision. Then make known your decision in a worship service and follow Jesus' command to be baptized (Matthew 12:19).
