A Note from Mary Louise
A
from Mary Louise
An old gospel hymn, “A New Name in Glory”, came to my mind when I was considering a new name for one of our choirs.
When I came on staff in 2005 I began working with the children and youth choir. I wanted to name it something other than “Children and Youth”, so it became “The Young Musicians Choir”.
Although we still have young ones, those who began singing in 2005 are now in high school and even college, plus some of my helpers are singing so their little ones will participate.
It was brought to my attention that the name needed to be changed to a more appropriate one because of the varied ages.
After considering a number of choices, Jubilate was chosen. My “Dictionary of Musical Terms” by Helen L. Kaufmann describes Jubilate (pronounced Ju-bee-lot-tay) as being joyful.
We were inspired on Palm Sunday when this choir joined the Sanctuary Choir in the loft and sang “Lift Up Your Heads”. I have had many requests to have both choirs sing together again. On Mother’s Day the Jubilate Choir will once again gather in the choir loft with the Sanctuary Choir and sing a special Mother’s Day anthem.
I thank all for their leadership in the worship services.
